Dinner at nutrition site
A chicken dinner is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Versailles Nutrition Site in Versailles.
The menu includes fried chicken, potatoes and gravy, green beans, cole slaw, lettuce salad, homemade bread, and desserts.
The fundraiser meal is $7 for adults, $4 for those 5 to 12 years old, and free to those less than 5 years old.

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy new year. There is not much news this week from the Golden Beach area.
On Wednesday, Dec. 31, my husband, Todd McCoin, my daughter Kaylee, and myself attended a New Years party hosted by John and Brenda Lapp from Barnett. Also attending was their son, Chris, and his friend, Cassie, who are both students at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Cassies parents were in attendance, along with Roy and Karen Bond of Jefferson City. Games were played, races from the past season watched, and plenty of food was eaten.
On Saturday, Jan. 3, Todd and I attended the Lake Ozark Speedway banquet held at Apple Creek Farms near Centertown. Todd received a trophy for taking third place in the crate, late-model division for the 2008 racing season. There were a good number of people in attendance for the event and everyone is looking forward to the 2009 racing season starting in April.
Just a reminder that food can still be donated at the Golden Beach community center or at the home of Nona Henry. All food donated will be taken to the food pantry in Versailles.
Dont forget about breakfast Saturday mornings at the community center.

Fish fry at St. Pats
The Knights of Columbus Council #10381 will hold an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at the Shrine of St. Patrick in Laurie.
The menu includes baked or fried fish, Southern Carolina hush puppies, macaroni and cheese, fries, beans, beverage and dessert.
Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $4 for children age 7 to 14. Children younger than 7 are free.
Proceeds will benefit local charitable activities.
Spanish storytime
at county library
The Morgan County Library is hosting a Spanish storytime 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the library in Versailles.
Students will learn new words, count to 10, sing a song and listen to Goodnight Moon in Spanish.
A Mexican treat will be served. Bernice Clark is the guest storyteller.

Offices closed Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 19
The following offices will be closed Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 19: Morgan County Courthouse, Circuit Court, Morgan County Associate Circuit Court, Morgan County Division of Family and Senior Services, Division of Employment Security, Morgan County R-II schools, Morgan County License Bureau, Versailles City Hall, Laurie City Hall, Sunrise Beach City Hall, Versailles Post Office, Morgan County Farm Service Agency, Morgan County Library, West Central Missouri Community Action Agency, and Morgan County Health Center. The health center will also be closed Tuesday, Jan. 20 for Inauguration Day.
The following offices are open Monday, Jan. 19: Burrell Behavioral Health Services and the offices of The Versailles Leader-Statesman.

School is in session Jan. 16
Morgan County R-II schools will be in session Friday, Jan. 16 in order to make up a snow day lost earlier this year.
Originally, Jan. 16 was scheduled as an off day, but students and teachers will now report for classes.
Monday, Jan. 19, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, will remain an off day for students and a workshop day for teachers.
Acuff to perform at Royal
The Carl Acuff, Jr. Show will be at the Royal Theatre, at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9 in Versailles.
Acuff started his career at the age of 12 in the Ozark Mountains. He went out on his own and started the Carl Acuff, Jr. Show in 1992 at the age of 21. He was submitted for a Grammy for New Male Vocalist of the Year in 2003 and was chosen Artist of the Year by Something Else Records for the last three years.
The concert will include top 40, and classic country, gospel, nostalgic rock n roll, and comedy.
Adult tickets are $10 and student/child tickets are $5.

The Dimond Annex, next to the Royal Theatre, display is entitled Needlecrafts, and features works by Lois Viebrock and Amy Todd. These ladies have crafted and created many items and this display will appeal to the novice and the expert.

Free weight management class offered in Versailles
Curves of Versailles is offering free weight management classes, starting with an introductory class from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at Curves on the square in Versailles.
Topics include weight management methods, smart grocery shopping, choosing the right carbohydrates, eating out, emotional eating and more.
All classes are free to both members and non-members and discounts are available on related weight management supplies and materials. No purchase is necessary to participate in the classes.
Classes will be taught by registered dietitian Nadia Rodman and facilitated by weight management coaches from Curves of Versailles.
Were excited to be offering free weight management classes, said Kathy Meyer, owner of Curves of Versailles. Every woman who is even thinking about losing weight should definitely check out the free classes.

G.E.D. classes to resume
G.E.D. classes that were canceled over the holidays will resume Tuesday, Jan. 13 in classroom 5 at Morgan County R-II High School in Versailles. New student orientation will begin at 4:30 p.m.
The classes, taught by Priscilla Climes, are held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Faces in the News
winner receives $100
The winner of the annual Faces in the News contest, sponsored by the Versailles Leader-Setatesman and the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce, will receive $100 worth of gift certificates valid at chamber busineses.
One winner will be drawn Friday, Jan. 9 from all entries submitted to the paper that correctly identify the most names of people featured on the front page of this weeks Leader-
Statesman.
The winner will then draw from a box containing the names of all the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce members to determine at what businesses the $100 can be spent.
