Glynn advances to state golf tourney
In his second year on the varsity golf team, Tyler Glynn successfully advanced to the state golf tournament at Deer Lake Golf Course in Springfield Monday, May 12 and Tuesday, May 13.
Glynn posted a state-qualifying score of 86 strokes during the district tournament Thursday, May 1 at Redfield Golf Course in Eugene. The top 10 golfers advanced to the state tournament.
Glynn came just short of the mark last season.
“For him to come back this year and make it is great and it will enable him to build on for next year,” Coach Kent Chamberlain said. “Congratulations to Tyler Glynn.”
Glynn shot a birdie on the fourth hole and nine pars in the tournament. He shot a 40 on the front nine and 46 strokes on the back nine.
Adam Nachbar, who qualified for the state tournament last season, fell just short with 91 strokes this season. The qualifying mark this season was 88 strokes.
Nachbar started the tournament with eight strokes on the par-five opening hole. He finished the front nine with 48 strokes.
“Nachbar had one of his worst nine-hole scores and started to come back. He still had a chance late in the round. He kept his composure and stayed with it. That says a lot about the young man,” Chamberlain said.
Nachbar came back strong in the back nine with 43 strokes. He shot a birdie on hole 11 and birdied the par-three hole 15. Nachbar also had five pars.
Drew Daniels finished with 96 strokes in his first district competition, with a birdie on the first hole. Justin Dean completed the course in 97 strokes with two pars and Kyle Nolawski finished his season with 106 strokes and two pars.
Chamberlain said the team will continue to work on their game into the summer in an effort to improve for next season. With four of the five varsity members returning next season, Chamberlain is looking forward to what’s in store.
Versailles shot a 370 overall for fifth in the district tournament. Belle won the tournament with 323 strokes. Eugene finished second with 351 strokes.
Chamberlain said the course was tougher this season than last year due to the wind. The state-qualifying score for last season was an 84.
