Voter Registration

In order to vote, a resident must have identification, and register in the County Clerk's office in the courthouse. Registration must be completed before 5 p.m. on the third Wednesday before the election.

There are two voting wards in Versailles, and polling places are announced before each election in the local newspapers and on the radio.

Local Government

Versailles has a mayor/council form of government. The city council establishes policy for all city services, adopts the budget, and levies taxes. The city clerk, city treasurer, city attorney, superintendent of public works, wastewater commissioner, and city board members are appointed by the mayor, subject to the approval of the board of aldermen.

Transportation

Versailles is served east to west by Highway 50, and north to south by Highway 5. Versailles is also home to the Roy Otten Memorial Airport, located just west of the city. The airport has a 40 by 2,800 foot, lighted runway, and has facilities for private airplane storage.

The City of Versailles has three medical centers, and is served by the Mid-Mo Ambulance district with four fully equipped ambulances and trained paramedics on call 24/7. Ambulances can be summoned using 911.

Library

The Morgan County Library moved to its new location at 600 N. Hunter in 2006, and has wireless internet connection available. The hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and closed on Sunday and Monday. You can call the library at 573-378-5319.

Park System

The City of Versailles has a system of five public parks: Dunham, East, Fairground, Memorial, and Soccer Park. Versailles' parks include playground equipment, shelter houses, horseshoe pits, volleyball and tennis courts, basketball goals, baseball fields, soccer fields, walking trails, grills, picnic tables, and a swimming pool. Recreation

Recreational activities include soccer, softball, T-ball, little league baseball and Babe Ruth programs and NFL youth football. The Rolling Hills Country Club on the north side of Versailles is an 18-hole golf course, with swimming pool and clubhouse with catering services. Tiger Lanes offers bowling at Clay Road and Highway 5 South. The Hunter Civic Center, located at 201 W. Jasper, has a large meeting room and kitchen facilities, and can be reserved by calling 573-378-4634.

City Fire Department

The City of Versailles has 20 volunteer firefighters. Four firetrucks and two rural firetrucks and two rural firetrucks are housed at the Versailles Fire Station, at 202 W. Newton. The Versailles Fire Department's equipment and training have earned it a class 6 rating by the Insurance Service Organization.

Police Department

The Versailles Police Department is located at 104 N. Fisher. There are 10 officers, all of whom have completed the basic police course, at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Law Enforcement Academy in Jefferson City, Missouri. Versailles Rural Fire Protection District

The Versailles Rural Fire Protection District is governed by a board of directors and serves the rural area around the City of Versailles. Board president is Larry Lackey and fire chief is Dr. M.B. Jones. For more infomation call 573-378-6828.

Morgan County Museum

The Morgan County Museum is located at 120 N. Monroe in the old Martin Hotel, and includes 28 rooms of antiques. Built in 1877, the museum is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places in Washington, D.C. Call the museum at 573-378-5530.

Royal Theatre

Morgan County R-II School District

The Morgan County R-II School district has two campuses, one in Versailles and one in Gravois Mills. Jeff Carter is the superintendent and Bob Wenger is the board of education president.
